How to Show Your Thanks This Thanksgiving

· lifestyle,holiday,William Doonan,thanksgiving

As we enter the month of November, the season of giving and blessings is here. With Thanksgiving right around the corner, it is an important time to show our thanks and appreciation for everything good we have in our lives. To show your “thanks” this year, try out one of the following ways to embrace the spirit of Thanksgiving.

Volunteer Your Time To Others

Have you ever heard the saying, “giving is better than receiving”? Spend this holiday giving back to your community and those who are in need. From volunteering at your local soup kitchen to delivering meals around town, serving others for a few hours is a great way to spend the day. If you are local to the NYC area, check out on my other blog how you can volunteer in the Big Apple.

Invite Someone Who May Be Alone

Spending a family-oriented holiday on your own can be depressing. Reach out to family member or friend who has no plans for the holiday. It may seem like a small gesture, but it can mean the world to someone else. Chances are you have made too much food and can certainly squeeze in an extra chair at your table.

Share An Extra Meal

Making Thanksgiving dinner can be stress-inducing and expensive. When you are planning your Thanksgiving feast, see if you can make a second meal for another family. Fostering your thankfulness by providing another meal will not only brighten your holiday but someone else’s.

Encourage Your Guests to Express Their Thankfulness

If you are hosting Thanksgiving this year, encourage your guests to share their gratitude. While sitting around the table, ask your guests to write on a card what they are thankful for. Another way you can share your gratefulness is by having a “Thanksgiving Tree” as a centerpiece on your dining table. Cut a tree out of cardboard and encourage your guests to write their thanks and good wishes on the colored leaves. By the end of the night, you will have heartwarming notes to read.

Share Your Favorite Thanksgiving Memories

As you finish your second slice of pie, share your fondest memories of the holiday. Remembering those special moments with your family will help enforce the notion that the holiday is more than just eating. It’s about spending time with the people you love and seeing how much you have to be grateful for.
